Mokgoro insists he has not yet received letter of suspension

Reading Time: 3 minutes

North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, insists that he has not yet received a letter of suspension from the African National Congress (ANC)’s Interim Provincial Committee ( IPC).

The IPC says Mokgoro and four other members of the provincial legislature, colluded with opposition parties during the election of a new Chair of Chairs in the legislature.

The ANC IPC has now formally confirmed the suspension of Mokgoro and four other members. The committee accuses them of colluding with opposition parties when electing the new Chair of Chairs. The party says this was against the mandate of its caucus.

IPC co-ordinator, Hlomane Chauke says, “IPCWC of the ANC, having received and considered the report on the outcome of the elections of the Chair of Chairs in the provincial legislature, has resolved that the following comrades be immediately suspended as per rule 25.56 of the ANC constitution. The affected comrades are as follows, comrade Tebogo Job Mokgoro, comrade Pricilla Williams, comrade Aaron Motswana, comrade Job Dliso and comrade Bitsa Lenkopane.”

Chauke says all members, including Mokgoro, have received their suspension letters.

“Information has been sent to the premier, hence the rest of the other members have responded. He has received it on Friday. It was done after 6 o’clock with an email. Further to that, with another, courtesy from myself as the coordinator, was to sent him again a Whatsapp, which confirms the email that we have sent to him and there is proof that that has been sent to the premier.”

But, Mokgoro refutes the claims. “I have not been given any formal notification of suspension. Since yesterday (Saturday), I’ve just heard through the media that I am under suspension. I am not aware. I continue to be a member of the ANC in good standing. I have been deployed to serve the people of the North West as premier. That situation stands.”

Those suspended say they have since appealed. One of those suspended is Bitsa Lenkopane.

“The matter is still to get to the attention of the DC and all the other internal organisational processes. So, I am concentrating on that, but we have appealed and we reserve our rights constitutionally. We have since appealed but yes we have received such letters.”

The ANC leadership says they will ensure a speedy disciplinary hearing.
