Former Deputy Finance Minister, Mcebisi Jonas has spoken out about events leading to and during a meeting with the Gupta brothers.
He is answering questions at the State Capture Inquiry about the alleged influence of the Gupta brothers and Duduzane Zuma on the executive during his term in office.
He started his testimony with an account of his alleged 2015 meeting with the Guptas in the presence of Duduzane Zuma and Fana Hlongwane.
He confirmed under oath his earlier statement that he had been offered the post of finance minister and a huge bribe.
He was promised R600 000 in cash with a promise of up to R600 million in the future.
Jonas says he didn’t immediately report the alleged bribe offered to him by the Gupta’s and Duduzane Zuma because he believed that the police would not investigate his claims properly.
He went on to say one of the Gupta brothers threatened to kill him should he speak out on the alleged bribe offered to him.
He is the second witness in the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture underway in Parktown, Johannesburg.
He says one of the Gupta’s told him they had intelligence information on him and would kill him if he spoke about the meeting.
