The family of an 11-year-old boy, who was murdered allegedly by a 15-year-old teenager in Limpopo, says they will not forgive the suspect until he tells the family what was the motive of the killing.

Tebane Mahanyane of Ga-Mamadila, outside Polokwane, was found murdered in the neighbour village of Ga-Makweya also outside Polokwane last Tuesday.

Family Spokesperson Alvesia Chokoe says Mahanyane will be laid to rest next Tuesday.

People have been visiting the bereaved Mahanyele family to comfort them since the incident.

It’s alleged that Mahanyane was lured by the two teenage boys from the same village to a soccer match and when he did not return home, the family then reported him missing. His body was found the following day in the neighbouring village of Ga-Makweya which is about 1km from his home village of Ga-Mamadila.

Mahanyane ‘s family says they are ready to forgive the suspect on the condition that he speaks the truth.

“We are going to have a funeral on Tuesday. Everything according to me or according to the family is going smoothly. We are really very sad. We are disappointed because the suspects are very young. We don’t know what has provoked them to do such a thing. We don’t understand how did they do this because we only understand that since they are younger people, they are looking for a very better future for themselves, but now they have disappointed us,” says Chokoe.

One suspect released

Police say one of the two teenagers who were arrested for allegedly killing Mahanyane has been released after police investigations found that he did not take part in the murder.

Police Spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says one teenager arrested in connection with the murder will appear before Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“One of the two 15-year-old teenagers who were arrested for the murder of an 11-year-old minor at Ga-Makweya village was released after preliminary police investigations revealed that only one actively took part in the murder. The suspect appeared in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court and he was remanded into custody until Monday the 29th of March for further police investigations.”

Police say a preliminary investigation found that Mahanyane might have been strangled by the suspect.
