DA misses opportunity to address masses: Analyst

Political analyst Gareth van Onselen says the DA lost out on an opportunity to speak to the masses at its national conference over the weekend as it was too focused on internal matters.

The DA’s constitution was amended to allow the party to fire public representatives it has lost confidence in.

This comes amidst an internal disciplinary process against Cape Town mayor, Patricia De Lille on allegations of misconduct.

Van Onselen says the DA seems to have created a fire then put the fire out and then reverted to square one.

He says: “A lot of the conference focused internally and I think that’s a bit of a problem for the DA.”

“It was an opportunity to speak to South Africans and instead what the party seemed to do was have a whole internal discussion about who it is and what it stands for.”
