The City of Cape Town has wished all troops taking part in Saturday’s annual minstrel parade a successful event.

The streets of the Mother City will come alive on Saturday morning as various minstrel groups march in their colourful wear to welcome the New Year. Thousands of spectators will line the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite troops.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith says apart from sponsoring the event, the city will also provide logistical support.

“We support it with a bit of logistical support especially to ensure the safety and security of participants so that the event can appeal to a wide range of people and be safe.  Everybody wants to bring their families and enjoy the day.  It starts at midday on Darling Street on the Grand Parade and this year they have added a bit of an extra loop,” says Smith.

The troops taking part in the minstrels carnival have said they are ready to strut their stuff on Cape Town’s streets.
