Cape Town City players aims to outplay Chiefs in TKO

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Telkom Knockout action hits Cape Town on Saturday afternoon, when Cape Town City will host Kaizer Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium in a last 16 clash.

It is an opportunity for both teams to challenge for their first silverware of the season, with City having lost out in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 trophy, while Chiefs did not qualify for this year’s MTN8.

While Chiefs have started like a house on fire in the Absa Premiership, it has not been a great start for City in the league. Dutch goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh says that while City’s form has not been great this season, they are not panicking.

City lost 2-1 to Chiefs in the league at Newlands Stadium earlier this season, and Leeuwenburgh says they have analysed that game where City started well before eventually losing.

Leeuweburgh says Chiefs are in good form and are the team to beat, and he is expecting an entertaining open game from both teams.

Like many young South Africans, Mark Mayambela grew up supporting Chiefs, and he says ever since he started at Bloemfontein Celtic, playing against the Amakhosi has been special.

Mayambela says though that games against Chiefs are always big occasions and the players do not need any extra motivation.

Mayambela made his debut for City in their last game after joining earlier this month, and he says he really wants to help the team win this trophy. Report by Rob Delport
