Former President Jacob Zuma speaks to supporters who gathered at his home at Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

Political analyst Ongama Mtimka says former President Jacob Zuma displayed what he terms a high level of irresponsibility in his rhetoric during a media briefing at his home at Nkandla in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.

Zuma compared his 15-month jail term to a death sentence and said he was at high risk due to his medical condition and age.

Former President Jacob Zuma contempt case judgment:

Last week, the Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma for contempt of court.

This was after he ignored its ruling that he continue to testify at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture despite his claim that commission chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo was biased.

Mtimka has described Zuma’s utterances and attitude as very disappointing.

Below is the full report:

Meanwhile, Zuma has, however, welcomed the Constitutional Court’s decision to hear his application for his 15 months jail sentence to be overturned.

The court will hear Zuma’s rescission application on Monday, July 12.

Zuma says he will not hand himself over to prison authorities in the meantime.

Zuma addresses the media on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at his Nkandla home:
