The DA in the Western Cape says young people must take responsibility for their own future by registering to vote in the 2021 municipal elections.
The DA remains in control of the province having received 54% of the vote.
However, their support declined by 4% since 2014.
Provincial leader Bonginkosi Madikizela says the party could have done better had more young people registered to vote.
He says thousands of young people did not show an interest in the elections and that is unacceptable
He says, “We must be very frank here as leaders and society at large. The circumstances before 1994 and now are quite different.”
“It is very disappointing that young people do not want to take the future into their own hands. The excuses that they keep on making for not voting are completely unacceptable. So more than just us appealing to them, they must step up and do the right thing.”
