While copyright protects the intellectual property of artists it does not guarantee automatic wealth.

Copyright is the bane of artists worldwide. This as they lose billions when their material is reproduced without consent.

Many artists have also died in poverty.

A workshop was held in downtown Johannesburg on Saturday  to devise creative solutions to tackling this scourge.

The workshop hoped to turn the tide and help artists make wise business choices. On top of the agenda was the right to protect creative work.

While copyright protects the intellectual property of artists it does not guarantee automatic wealth.

As royalties are only collectible for work that is being used; artists were encouraged to evolve beyond their traditional markets.

The Copyright Amendment Bill is currently before parliament.

High-end fashion, popular musicians, and traditional thoroughbreds on the track were the order of the day.
Pemmy Majodina, Recreation MEC says:

Zolani Tete, Boxing Champion shares his thoughts on the event:
"This is a great event I am here to enjoy and inspire kids as well. The atmosphere is great and I’m enjoying the event.”

One of the attendees of the event says:
"I am coaching two of the horses participating here and I am passionate about horses. I am elated that one of my horses has already won a race.”
