The opening of the ANC National Conference in Nasrec has been delayed due to the registration of delegates which was still underway at midday.
President Jacob Zuma was supposed to deliver a political report at 9h30 on Saturday morning.
A special NEC meeting which was held in the morning to discuss the fate of KwaZulu-Natal and Free State Executive Committee as well as North West’s Bojanala region also resulted to the delays.
Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says, “We have finished registration. We are now at the tail, registering Tshwane. Every province has been registered; every region has been registered, and we said instead of putting pressure on everybody, we will start the conference at 14H00, so that we don’t put undue pressure on everybody, running around. Having a conference, we can’t even adopt the credentials. We want to table the credentials upfront to the conference.”
