The report titled "VBS Mutual Bank - The Great Bank Heist" was released earlier in October.

The VBS Mutual Bank scandal has claimed its first casualty in the Giyani Municipality in Limpopo.

The Chief Financial Officer Hitler Maluleke has been fired for authorising the municipality’s investment of R 161 million in the troubled bank.

Earlier, a Technical Services Manager Precious Mathabula resigned before appearing before a disciplinary hearing.

Municipal Spokesperson Steven Mabunda says Maluleke was also found guilty of paying service providers for work that was not done.

“This follows misconduct, for which he was suspended in May this year  after investigations. It was found that he had in the VBS investment and also he was accused and found guilty of a charge relating to authorisation of payments for work that has not been done,” says Mabunda.
