Two Vhembe TVET College students die after being knocked down by alleged drunk driver

Two students of the Vhembe TVET College, Makwarela campus, outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo have died after being knocked down by an allegedly speeding car.

Police say the two were walking when a speeding car being driven by a suspected drunken driver crashed into them.

The driver allegedly tried to run away, but was cornered by some community members.

Police Spokesperson, Moatshe Ngoepe says the driver has been arrested and he faces culpable homicide and drunken driving charges.

He says, “Police in Thohoyandou have arrested a 31-year-old man for culpable homicide and driving under the influence of liquor after he allegedly knocked down a man and a woman to death, in their early 30’s on Friday at around 1900 hours along the Makwarela-Tshikweta public road. The preliminary police investigation has revealed that the two were students at the Vhembe TVET College. The suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday.”
