The City of Tshwane says through its Tshwane Ya Tima revenue collection campaign, at least 70 accounts have been successfully terminated in various areas of Pretoria.
The campaign started on Wednesday.
The City seeks to disconnect services to defaulting clients. It is currently targeting about 1 500 consumers who owe billions of rands.
Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance, Jacqui Uys says they will use law enforcement if necessary.
Uys says, “As we intensify our revenue-collection campaign, I wish to appeal to all residential estate managers to allow city meter readers to do their job and not to block access. I want to emphasise that the city needs revenue to deliver services and to honour commitments to our creditors such as Eskom and Rand Water.”
