‘The release of Mahumapelo is near’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A political analyst says the writing is on the wall that the demise of Supra Mahumapelo as North West premier is near.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the national working committee of the African National Congress (ANC) has recommended that he be axed.

The inter-ministerial committee tasked with investigating governance issues in the North West has concluded its work.

Professor Andre Duvenhage says he however pre-empts that Mahumapelo will not go without a fight.

“I believe there will be resistance from the side of Mr Mahumapelo and his group. We know they have support within the North West, at least in certain districts. But my take on the situation is that the NWC is going to recommend his removal. That will go to the NEC. And parallel to this, we will have ministerial task team of Miss Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma with their report, and the combination of this will indicate the end of Mr Mahumapelo.”
