Temperatures in KwaZulu-Natal are expected to start picking up today after the intense cold front of the weekend that saw snow falling on the Drakensberg.

Snow also fell in towns like Underberg and Nottingham Road in the foothills of mountains.

South African Weather Service forecaster Julius Mahlangu says today’s minimum temperatures in Underberg and Kokstad are 1 degree and 4 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperatures will return to the ’20s again later today. Mahlangu says rain is however expected on Wednesday.

“So we are expecting an improvement in terms of the temperatures across the province in the coming week. However, on Wednesday there is a possibility of light rain and showers along the coastal areas extending into the Midlands.”
