A 19 year old woman, that was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a 69-year-old pensioner, has briefly appeared in a local court and released on warning by the Hlabisa Magistrates Court on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
This follows a video that went viral on social media showing the young woman beating the old woman with a stick.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane says: “A 19-year-old woman appeared in the Hlabisa Magistrates Court facing charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. She was released on a free warning and will be back at court on the 11th of September.”
He says after seeing the video on social media the police traced its origins and were able to establish that it came from Ezibayeni near the Zululand area.
A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was then opened and the suspect was immediately arrested.
