The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) into the payment of social grants says it has taken a decision to fast-track the introduction of an integrated grants payment system.
It will be provided through a partnership between the South Africa Post Office and the Social Security Agency (Sassa).
This follows a breakthrough in the social grants impasse.
The agreement will be signed next Friday.
IMC chairperson Jeff Radebe says a special team has been established to oversee the agreement.
“The mandate of the team will be to ensure finalisation of the cooperation agreement between Sassa and SAPO, the governance and contracting framework, risk assessment and mitigation, monitoring and evaluation. The dedicated team will report weekly to the IMC and will commit resources needed for execution of the project,” says Radebe.
