Suspect arrested for Umlazi mass shooting

Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of seven people at a house in Umlazi, Durban at the weekend.

Police say another person has died following the attack, bringing the death toll to seven.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, in the same area, two people were also shot and killed just a day later.

The KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says, “A multi-disciplinary team comprising of officers from the serious and violent crimes murder and robbery unit, provincial stabilisation team, and crime intelligence – followed leads in Umbumbulu, Umlazi, Empandwini and Pitela areas.”

“The identified suspects were cornered and arrested at a mall in Durban. He was expected to make his first court appearance at the Umlazi Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. [He] will face seven charges of murder and one of attempted murder,” adds Netshiunda.
