Mamelodi Sundowns leapfrogged to fourth place on the ABSA Premiership log when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns supporters could not have asked for a cracker of a second round match in the New Year.

Anthony Laffor lived up to the expectations when he scored the first goal in the third minute. Laffor was taking advantage of an unstable Chiefs’s defence.

Chiefs came into the match having won their last three games in all competitions.

Sundowns on the other hand have drawn seven of their last league matches.

With lack of communication in Sundowns defence, Willard Katsande punished Sundowns and then it was game on.

Laffor is not used to start with the match but he gave Chiefs defence a hard time.

Chiefs goalkeeper Virgil Vries showed his inexperience when he misjudged a bouncing shot with only eight minutes before the final whistle.

Sundowns’ win means that they are continuing with their unbeaten streak. They are yet to lose after 16 matches

Meanwhile, Polokwane City also got the better of Amazulu when they beat them with a 3-2 score line at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Polokwane are third on the log with 26 points.
