Reading Time: 2 minutes

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says they have sufficient manpower on the ground in Cape Town to deal with the ongoing taxi strike.

General Masemola says they also have the support of the city police.

He is calling on the relevant parties to resolve their difference around the negotiating table. Masemola was speaking on the sidelines of the Police Career expo in East London.

“They have to also understand that the police are there to make sure there is law and order and we wouldn’t be shy to enforce the law.

Meanwhile, taxi body SANTACO in the Western Cape says it will continue with its taxi strike until government concedes to its demands. SANTACO called the action on Thursday in protest against the City of Cape Town’s traffic by- laws and the impounding of vehicles.

Taxi strike enters second day:

The body’s leadership has been meeting behind closed doors in Bellville to map a way forward. SANTACO says they’ll make an announcement on their plans tomorrow.

Santaco Western Cape’s First Deputy Chairperson, Nceba Enge, “We have some submissions that we have submitted to the government as demands so we are expecting them to get back to us later today. But we are going to have a press conference tomorrow to come up with the details as to what transpired.”
