State memorial service for FW de Klerk to be held on Sunday

A state memorial service will be held for the last apartheid President, FW de Klerk.

In a statement issued by government, the memorial service will be held on Sunday at the Groot Kerk in Cape Town.

De Klerk passed away last month at the age of 85 after battling cancer.

He was laid to rest at a private funeral service more than two weeks ago.

The former President served as State President from 1989 to 1994 and as Deputy President from 1994 to 1996.
