The annual Splash Festival enters its second day in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. One of the highlights will actually take place in the dark with a fireworks display scheduled at eight Saturday evening on the city’s beachfront.

The festival is geared for family fun with various sporting codes, a music festival and various stalls on display.

The festival provides a welcome economic boost to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Political head for Sport and Recreation, Siyasanga Sijadu says: “This for us … as the city generates revenue. Because by filling up hotels it means we are increasing economic impact in the city.”

“So splash has done that throughout the years and it continues doing that. It’s even greater this year that we are also expanding to Wells Estate beach as well. So it’s a growing event.”

Those in attendance are having fun.

“We just here to have some fun in the sun. It’s an awesome place to be, there’s so much to see for kids and a lot of  sport to watch,” says one attendee.
