South Africa to play Zimbabwe in Cosafa Semis

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says the defending champions of the women’s Cosafa Cup need to be on top of their game when they face Zimbabwe in the semi-finals at Wolfson Stadium on Thursday (kick-off at 15:30).

Both sides finished top Group A and C respectively with nine points. Ellis says individual talent and discipline will need to show if they are to get to the final.

Ellis had made six changes to the side that defeated Madagascar in the final Group A match. The coach says she has given everyone a chance and at this stage she cannot be gambling.

Banyana and the Mighty Warriors have been tipped as the strongest teams at this year’s event.

Asked if the potential winners of the trophy will come from this game, Ellis says she does not want to look further than the match.

The 56-year-old also feels the other semi-finalists Zambia and Botswana should not be taken lightly. – Report by Lethabo Kganyago
