Some residents in Limpopo say they have been experiencing an eight-hour-long power outage on a daily basis for weeks. They say they have been experiencing power cuts for four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening.

Eskom has been issuing notices regarding the affected areas. Among the affected areas are Ga-Sekgopo, Ga-Mathabatha, Nwamitwa, and Moroke.

The residents say the power utility is taking advantage of them because they live in rural areas.

“Every day in the morning from 5am to 9am, we experienced the load reduction again in the evening from five to nine. And sometimes this can take even a week.  We are forced to endure eight hours of no electricity on a daily basis. To make matters worse at the time it started, we were writing our exams, forced to study with a candle.

As the community of Ga-Mathabatha, we are concerned about the load reduction that is happening around our village. Since the beginning of November, we are encountering the load shedding for more than eight hours a day,” A resident explains.
