Six suspects shot dead during shootout with police in Inanda

KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that six suspects have been shot dead in a shootout with police officers in Emachobeni, Inanda, Durban, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In a statement, police confirm that they had acted on information about the whereabouts of the suspects, who were wanted for a series of house robberies, murders, business robberies and carjackings.

Three more suspects, two men and a 31-year-old woman, were arrested.

One police officer was grazed with a bullet on the hand.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker says, “Once the police officers arrived at the house, they were met with a hail of bullets towards the police officers then returned fire. Following the shootout, six suspects were found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds and three more suspects, two men and a 31-year-old woman, were arrested. One police officer was grazed by a bullet on the hand. Two rifles and a shotgun were found in the possession of the suspects, as well as vehicle which was hijacked in December 2023.”

Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to visit Emachobeni:
