The sitting of the North West Legislature to elect the new premier has been postponed indefinitely.

Premier Supra Mahumapelo resigned in May 2018  as premier.

The move followed violent protests against Mahumapelo who was accused of corruption by  some residents.

The sitting was convened for  Friday, 8 June 2018.

The African National Congress (ANC) has announced that it has not yet chosen Mahumapelo’s successor and is still consulting its structures.

Chief-of-staff in the speaker’s office, Tebogo Chaane, says the sitting was convened to allow members of the legislature to elect among themselves the person who will fill in the vacancy of the premier of the North West.

“So, the sitting will be convened soon, although a date has not been set yet. I believe that the postponement was as a result of affording the legislature some time to do the necessary preparations and for parties to ready themselves for that particular event,” adds Chaane.
