Sanral’s toll fees increase bad news for consumers: RFA

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Road Freight Association (RFA) has warned that the plan to increase toll fees is likely to lead to an increase in retail prices.

This after the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) announced that toll fees will increase by 6,25% with effect from the first of next month.

The agency says this is in line with its annual tariff increase, in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as captured by Statistics South Africa.

The association’s CEO, Gavin Kelly says, “Even though 6,25% might not sound like a lot of money to some people, they don’t know that Sanral says ‘well, it’s just under the CPI figure so therefore we should be pleased about it.'”

“Whatever you put in an increase, we’ve got fuel going up, so we’re going to see that affecting the prices that you and I pay at retail outlets. In a couple of months definitely, we’ll see that,” adds Kelly.
