The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has set up two Commissions of Inquiry into editorial interference and sexual harassment.

Acting CEO Nomsa Philiso says this follows recommendations by the SABC Ad Hoc Committee dealing with editorial interference and unlawful conduct.

The public broadcaster has been mired in various controversies, including editorial interference and financial mismanagement.

The SABC announced to its staff that it will be launching initiatives to deal with issues that have plagued the public broadcaster for some time.

Philiso says this is part of an effort to deal with abuse of power in the organisation.

She says the commissions will help re-establish trust with stakeholders and the public and will be led by highly respected and experienced individuals.

There will also be counselling programmes and a sexual harassment awareness campaigns while the commissions are underway.
