SABC Radio News hosts election town hall debates countrywide

SABC News’ 14 radio current affairs teams are hosting about 65 outside town hall debates countrywide ahead of the May 29 National and Provincial elections.

The debates will be in 13 languages, including the two San languages, Khwedam and !Xuntali.

The broadcasts will be held in Musina, Matatiele, Piet Retief, Thohoyandou, Hammanskraal, Dullstroom, Giyani, East London, Rustenburg and Langa, among other areas.

Last week, SAfm Update@Noon hosted eight political parties at Newcastle town hall in KwaZulu-Natal.

The African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the African Transformation Movement (ATM), uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, ActionSA and the Abantu Batho Congress took part in the debate.

The ANC said 95% of the people have electricity because of the party, the DA emphasised that they have a track record of good governance and the EFF added they have radical solutions to address the issue of jobs.

Earlier this month, Lesedi FM’s Makumane held an election debate in Bloemfontein, where the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) said their manifesto focuses on land and the Africa Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) highlighted the role it plays in South Africa’s democracy.

Rise Mzansi and Independent Candidate Ramotswabodi Sesing were also part of the panel.
