Ramokgopa arrives unannounced at Jubilee Hospital

Medical staff and patients at Jubilee Hospital in Hammanskraal outside Pretoria were taken aback when Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa arrived unannounced to inspect reports of poor delivery of services.

In her budget vote speech this week, Ramokgopa flagged Jubilee as one of the worst performing hospitals in Gauteng. She heard first-hand accounts about shortage of doctors, nurses and equipment. Ramokgopa says her department will be attending to all issues affecting the hospital.

“I spoke to a lot of patients. They also acknowledge that there are many. The demand is high and that the number of staff has not increased accordingly over the time and I am also here to confirm that there are posts that have been approved for this hospital, two for doctors and eight for nurses, including an operational manager. Because nursing is one of the areas where there is critical shortage.”
