Ramaphosa slams illegal land grabs

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed disapproval of illegal land grabs. This comes amid reports that people are occupying land on plots in Midrand between Johannesburg and Pretoria, allegedly instigated by the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Ramaphosa conducted a tour of the Tshwane Metro on Sunday as part of the voter registration weekend.  Residents raised a slew of concerns. Among many other issues, Ramaphosa addressed the issue of land invasions.

“Nobody has any right to invade land to violate other people’s rights. We should be a country where if you have concerns or complaints you should raise them formally and they should be heeded and addressed. Our law enforcement agencies must immediately kick in because if we do that, then we are allowing lawlessness.”
