About 500 people have been left homeless after scores of shacks burnt down in Woodlands, Pretoria East, on Saturday.

The Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety Alderman Kissoonduth says the fire engulfed over 50 shack.

Most families have lost all their belongings. Emergency services have since contained the fire. A paraffin stove is suspected to have caused the fire.
