One person has died in a fire that has burnt more than 30 shacks in an informal settlement in Vrededorp north-west of Johannesburg.
Forty other people have been displaced.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Muladzi says the cause of the fire is unknown.
He says, “We just want to encourage all our residents to continue to look after any heating device and not to leave these heating devices unattended so that we can be able to prevent fire incidents like this one during this cold front that we are having now in the city.”
“EMS will be on high alert so that we can respond to any fire incidents throughout the city of Johannesburg,” adds Muladzi.
