As the nation awaits the address by President Cyril Ramaphosa, he has warned that the passing of eSwatini’s Prime Minister is a reminder of the severity of COVID-19 and the need to take the necessary precautions “to protect yourself and the loved ones.”

Ramaphosa has extended condolences over the passing of Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini. He passed away yesterday at the age of 52.

He was being treated for COVID-19 at a hospital in South Africa.

Dlamini was appointed prime minister in November 2018, following his position as the Chief Executive officer of MTN Eswatini. He had worked in the banking industry for more than 18 years, including being the Managing Director of Eswatini Nedbank Limited.

The southern African nation of around 1.2 million people has so far recorded more than 6 700 positive cases of the highly infectious respiratory disease, with 127 confirmed deaths, according to the health ministry.

Ramaphosa is due to address the nation at 8pm this evening on developments regarding South Africa’s strategy to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the midst of the second wave of infections.

The address will be streamed live:
