The Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) will have a high level meeting Monday in Johannesburg with state entities on how to deal with the logistics of the crash between a  train and a truck near Kroonstad in the Free State.

A long distance Shosholoza Meyl train collided with a truck at a level crossing killing at least 19 passengers and more than 100 others injured.

Only one line is operating between Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg.

Prasa’s Dr Sipho Sithole says, “That will be dealing with all the logistics and the kind of support that we will be providing to the families and the assistance. That meeting will be between Prasa and other relevant state entities like the Department of Transport, the Road Transport Management Services and the Road Accident Fund. After that, then will be able to communicate more in detail as to exactly what would be happening until this process is complete.”
