The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) says it will assist all those affected by Thursday’s train crash in the Free State.

18 people were killed and 254 injured when the Shosholoza Meyl train collided with a truck at a railway crossing between Henneman and Kroonstad.

Acting CEO of Prasa Rail, Mthura Swartz, says they will also assist the victims and the families of those who died to take action against the truck company that owns the vehicle involved in the collision that is alleged to have caused the crash.

“ We have taken to give them moral support, we would also support them with funeral arrangements using our Road Accident Fund which is one of our sister companies. So we are liaising with them to also make these arrangements. We will give them all support including those that are in hospital, we have to do this these are our customers. We have to do everything we can to make sure that we assist them.”
