Police had to use rubber bullets and stun grenades to force a group of ANC members who intended to disrupt National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) march in front of the North West Legislature building.

Nehawu members joined by Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa), Youth Communist League (YCL) and Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (HOSPERSA) marched to demand the resignation of Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

They accuse him of being in the centre of fraud and corruption in various provincial departments.

However, Ofentse Bogopane, who led a group of African National Congress (ANC) members, intended to disrupt Nehawu march differs with them.

“We are here as a structure of the African National Congress to defend the deployee and the chairperson of the province who is the premier, comrade Supra Mahumapelo. Because Nehawu is an alliance to the ANC. As the ANC Youth League, we are saying to Nehawu if they have a crisis or problems they must engage the ANC and sit down with the ANC and say to them ‘we are having a problem with your deployee,’” says Bogopane.
