North West police have dismissed earlier media reports that three police officers who died in a crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning near Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape were part of the team investigating the killing of five police officers last week.

Seven members of the Mancobo Seven Angels church died in a gun battle with police on Friday night.

North West Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says four police officers from Potchefstroom were tracking suspects.

Mokgwabone says one is still hospitalised, while three died at the scene.

He says the officers were part of the North West provincial tracking team.

He says: “They left the province on Monday afternoon to go and track suspects wanted in the province. They’ve got nothing to do with the incident that occurred in Ngocobo last week and they’ve got nothing to do with the memorial service.”
