Police Minister General Bheki Cele has revealed that four police generals have been arrested for various crimes.
The top cops have not yet appeared in court and Cele said he could not at this stage reveal any further information about the four arrested police generals.
He made the announcement in Chatsworth south of Durban, where he met the local communities who had drafted a memorandum complaining about the escalating rate of crime, including the tragic death of 11 year-old Sardiah Sukhraj in a hijacking.
Cele has called on communities to be vigilant, saying he will be sending more resources to high crime areas.
“We are very pleased with the response of the law enforcement especially the South African Police Services with all those units that we work on. I think for the last two weeks we have had good achievements. We have arrested the kingpins of this scourge. These syndicates between twenty, to twenty-five within two weeks, you can see that we have had some quiet recess,” Cele says.
