Police corruption under the spotlight in Western Cape

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A defence lawyer in the underworld extortion case that is underway at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court has described the prosecution as nothing else, but an indication of corrupt police in cahoots with factions of criminals.

During the cross-examination of the investigating officer, Charl Kinnear, lawyer Bruce Hendricks alleged that the police were in cahoots with the other faction of the underworld led by Mark Lifman.

Hendricks alleges that Kinnear’s informants in the case were linked to Lifman.

Hendricks, representing accused No.: 2, Colin Booysen has also questioned why Kinnear visited Lifman’s house to take a statement, instead of inviting him to the police station.

Five men are appearing on charges of fraud and extorting money from nightclubs and restaurants in the Cape Town area.

The case continues.
