The Free State Stars medical team is working round the clock to get their trusted defender Patrick Phungwayo ready and fit to play.

Stars face Maritzburg United in the Nebank Cup final on Saturday evening at Cape Town Stadium.

However, there are concerns over the readiness of Phungwayo after he limped off at training on Tuesday morning.

Patrick Phungwayo has been a key player for Stars this season and has featured in 30 matches in all competitions.

Stars’ Belgian coach Luc Eymael is confident that he will have his talismanic defender ahead of their trip to Cape Town.

“It’s a knock. He will have treatment via the physio and I hope he will be available. It’s painful but it’s not dangerous like lateral or inside lateral, and or external ligament,” says Eymael.
