Parliament is conducting hearings into whether the constitution can be amended to effect land expropriation without expropriation.

The Constitutional Review Committee’s hearings into the amendment of the Constitution continue to draw opposing views. This as Parliament conducts hearings into whether the Constitution can be amended to effect land expropriation without compensation.

Stakeholders are not holding back on their views and there is no middle ground. Its either they are for or against the proposed amendment.

The Black Lawyers Association and the National Association for Democratic Lawyers are in support of the move. Lobby groups like the Black First Land First (BLF) are also throwing their weight behind land expropriation.

However, some say not all white South Africans stole land and warn of the economic consequences after amending the Constitution.
