Police have launched a manhunt for three men following an incident in which a 28-year-old man was shot and killed at his shop at Richie, near Modderriver, in the Northern Cape.

The incident happened at the weekend after three masked suspects entered the man’s shop and pointed a firearm at him and his wife.

The robbers tied up the man and his wife in the backroom and later shot the shop owner.

Police Spokesperson, Sergio Kock says it’s alleged that the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a Gauteng-registered bakkie.

“The province implemented the 72-hour activation plan to apprehend and arrest the suspects by mobilizing all specialized units to apprehend and arrest the suspects. The suspects threatened the owner and his wife with firearms. The men took them into a back-room, tied up the owner, his wife and their baby. The deceased was shot and died on the scene, and the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register. The suspects allegedly fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger bakkie with GP registration plates,” says Kock.
