The North West province is hosting its provincial leg of World Aids Day commemorations at Mogwase stadium near Sun City.

Currently the country has seven million people living with the virus with the North West making up 17.1% of the figure.

The province is the fourth worst affected by the virus.

Nationally government plans to test and treat more than six million people living with the virus by 2020.

The country currently has 4.2 million people that are already on ARV treatment, making it the biggest HIV treatment programme in the world.

Government say it has intensified the fight against the virus and new infections which they say are coming down, although at the slow rate.

People have been encouraged to go test and know their status – whilst also practising safe sex.
