The African National Congress’ (ANC) Interim Provincial Committee in North West, says it has resolved to terminate the membership of about 15 of its deployees in various municipalities who have registered with other parties to contest the November elections.
The majority of them are from the Zeerust-based Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality, Maqwassi Hills in Wolmaranstad and Lekwa Teemane in Christiana.
Spokesperson for the ANC IPC, Kenny Morolong says, “These former ANC deployees have elected to stand in opposition to the ANC in these elections. By doing so, they have voluntarily dissociated themselves from the ANC. Logically as the organisation, we are expected to terminate their membership and remove them as representatives of the ANC in these municipal councils.”
One of the defected councillors, is the current speaker of the Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality, Alfred Nyamane.
Nyamane who will be contesting as a PR councillor for the Forum 4 Service Delivery, has vowed not to resign.
He says, “There is no law which says I must resign. Three months down the line, before the election you can’t resign. I am going to remain the speaker of Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality until the first of November and I am challenging them to go and do that – to go and write me a letter to resign- and if F4SD gives me the mandate to resign, I will resign. I belong to F4SD I don’t belong to the ANC.”
Step aside
In May, the ANC Interim Provincial Committee in the North West instructed five party members to step aside.
The members based in Tsetse village outside Mahikeng are implicated in alleged criminal activities.
Amongst them is the branch secretary, while others are senior government officials.
All of them are facing charges of attempted murder.
