Rival factions in the Nationl Freedom Party  (NFP) have started talks to unite the party ahead of next year’s general elections. Internal squabbles in the party started after the NFP failed to register for the 2016 municipal elections.

It has divided the party into two factions, each claiming to be the legitimate structure of the NFP. They have now agreed to convene a summit that will be attended by branch and district leaders from across the country.

NEC member Ahmed Shaik-Emam has assured party members that the representatives of both factions are in the process of uniting the party.

“The talks covered a wide range range and a number of issues but mainly focusing on four critical issues which in our view were the main issues of contestation within our ranks and membership which have or had to be urgently resolved and agreements in these regards have been reached,” said Shaik-Emam.

The four critical issues are court cases, conferences, resignations of certain leaders and extended National Working Committee and consultative ENWC summit.
