The 2017 Motsepe foundation toy drive has distributed over 270 000 toys to disadvantaged children across the country.

The toys are given to children in orphanages and hospitals under the age of 12 who would not normally get a Christmas present because they are indigent.

The program has been running for about 10 years.

Over 1 million Christmas presents are distributed in all nine provinces at some 70 distribution points.

On Thursday Christmas came early for thousands of children in Soweto. Over 8000 toys were distributed to disadvantaged children in the Orlando community.

South African Business man Patrice Motsepe and his wife, Precious, were joined by a number of celebrities.

They handed out the toys on behalf of the Motsepe Foundation. Precious Motsepe says the experience is always humbling.

The foundation also assists some children with getting an education through their bursary scheme.

The foundation plans to continue with their charity work in the New Year when they will hand out stationary and uniforms to schoolchildren.

A star-studded line up is expected to draw thousands of concert goers as the foundation prepares for its concert in Pretoria on Sunday.
