The Road Traffic Management Corporation has warned motorists that the deadline for the renewal of licences which expired between 26 March to 31 December 2020 is fast approaching. The national lockdown imposed on the country last year forced licensing centres to close, resulting in a backlog of expired licences.
Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula then announced an extension for all learner licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving licences until the end of August this year.
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo says they’re looking into complaints from motorists that they are finding it difficult to get slots on the provincial online booking system.
“There has been an outcry that people are manipulating selling the slots, we’ve appointed one of the best most renowned forensic investigation companies for the first time. They are now a month on the job, they are bringing down and deep diving into this issue of manipulation of slots. So we will be making definitely an impact on cracking the syndicates and networks of corruption that are making it difficult for everybody to get a slot,” says Mamabolo.
