Transport authorities in KwaZulu-Natal say they have seen a marked increase in traffic volumes on the province’s roads this long weekend.
The authorities have warned road users to drive with caution on the N3 between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, where roadworks linked to the upgrade of the freeway are causing congestion.
KZN Transport Department Spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says they will continue with roadblocks throughout the weekend.
“We want to send a very strong message to all road users in the province that this long weekend we are going to apply (a) no-nonsense approach. We are going to make sure that those who would be violating the law are dealt with but what is important for us as well as to build on the foundation that we’ve laid in the festive season, the fact that we’ve managed to reduce crashes and fatalities by six percent is an indication that if we continue to work together we will be able to work an accident-free province, therefore, we will be working towards that vision.”

17h01 20/03 #N3Traffic: There are currently no incidents disrupting the flow of traffic along the #N3TollRoute between Cedara I/C 96 and Heidelberg South I/C 59. Thank you for sharing the road responsibly. Please drive safely and take care. pic.twitter.com/9r3Whau8mh
