Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has conveyed condolences to the families of two patients who died in the fire at the COVID 19 ward at the FH Odendaal Hospital in Modimolle, Limpopo.
One of the patients was an inmate who had been admitted to at the hospital.
An investigation by police and forensic pathology from the Health Department is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Mkhize says they welcome the probe.
The Health Minister has also commended the nurses who helped extinguish the fire and rescue patients inside the wards.
Patients who were inside the hospital have since been evacuated.
